Moon, Venus and Jupiter were giving a nice show this week. Driving from Flensburg to Schleswig around sunset Van noticed that they had again appeared in the beautifully blue sky. So we continued right away to Winningmay, one of our favorite Schlei spots around Schleswig. It was freezingly cold but I could take some few photos in the last available light and quickly jump back into the car.

Today was totally grey and dull. But I didn’t have a photo for this week yet, so I had to make the best of it. Grey, dark, windy: Perfect ingredients for a black and white long exposure. So that’s what I did.

On a trip back from Kiel we made the round to Maasholm today. Finally the Schlei:52 series covers (almost) the entire length of the Schlei. We arrived just in time for the sunset, and I could try my new Cokin graduated filter to balance the exposure between the sky and the foreground.

The other day we spotted these beautiful horses on the side of the road, with the setting sun behind them. After some moments of hesitation I turned around and stopped the car to take some photos of the herd. That turned out harder than I thought – these two were so curious that they didn’t give me any chance to take a decent photo of the other horses behind them.
Well, I had to stick with these two friends then – and they gave me some nice poses indeed! This one is my favorite, for me it shows how softly and trusty they interacted with each other, even if both of them wanted to be in the spotlight.
Kind of a last minute shot this week.
Today was predicted to be all grey and dull all day, so after a sunset with beautiful colors that we witnessed far from the Schlei we decided to make a stop in Lindaunis on the way home. The wind was blowing stong across the water when I was standing on the empty marina to take this photo of the bridge. 3 minutes of exposure time plus three minutes of in-camera noise-reduction allowed for only one shot before it was too dark and I felt like a block of ice.
I would have liked to have do second try but I’m not unhappy with the result anyway. Even got some color in the clouds which I guess are the reflection of the lights of Schleswig.

As I mentioned on Sunday’s post Schlei close to Ulsnis was full of birds – shelducks, all kind of waders and one cormorant, seen with opened wings in the photo to the right.
I used the geese and swans that were passing by to practise some panning. The light was fading and allowed for some longer shutter speeds to follow the birds in their movement. The result were a lot of photos for the trash, but two of them actually worked (not bad for being the first time, I’d say). The first one is at the top of this post, the second one is shown here.
The photo was taken at 1/40 second, with f16 and ISO 400 on a tripod. The title photo has the same settings, with a slightly more open aperture at f11.
I was already getting afraid to miss this week… as we have been sick in bed most of the week, first me then Van. Yesterday didn’t seem like a day to go out for two not-yet recovered adventurers.
But today has been nice and sunny, so in the afternoon we got a can of hot tea, some cake and my camera and jumped into the car for a short trip to Ulsnis. Sadly the church was already closed, but down at the little beach of Ulsnisstrand we had a nice time and some beautiful sunset light. Lots of birds all around as well, geese of all kind and some majestic Whooper Swans, winter guests from Scandinavia (the birds will get their own post).
