As a good coastal city Flensburg also has some ship building industry. The shipyards of Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft dominate the harbour entrance, together with Stadtwerke Flensburg‘s carbon power plant with it’s tall chimney. Right now there are two special ships in construction, both built for maintenance of offshore oil fields.
