Experimented a bit with smoke photos today. I got a scent stick that produces a constant flow of smoke and put one flash beside it. Then I set the camera to take a totally dark exposure in the light of the room, so that the only visible light came from the flash. That’s how I got the black background. Now I just had to shoot away (the flash was on it’s minimum power 1/128 second or 1/64 for some photos – like that there was no need to wait for the flash to recharge). That simple setup can lead to quite impressive results! This is my favorite from today.

Photo data: Pentax K20D, 18-55 mm lens at 55 mm, f6.3, 1/100 second and ISO 400.
